New from Scrumptious Home Baking

Results!!!

When testing a new recipe, I always follow the recipe to the letter. From there, you can start changing it.  A recipe may take a few goes before you get the best results. 

This Orange and Almond Cake, on the first attempt, everyone on the TTT (Taste Testing Team) felt that the orange peel on top was too messy and made it difficult to cut. But the flavour of the cake won them over.  Comments on the taste were very positive:

"Love the almondy flavour"
"Soooo delicious, my favourite orange cake I've ever had"
"Loves the orange flavour"
"Tastes amazing"
"Really love the orange flavour from the peel, I liked that it wasn't too sweet. Loved the zest inside the cake. Pretty sure it will be even better on day 2"



On the second attempt, I decided to only do one layer of orange slices on top. These were cut slightly thicker in order for them to hold their shape. There was also the addition of toasted almonds on top. Cooking times were also adjusted, along with when the syrup and topping were applied. Here's what the TTT had to say now:

"It's not as orangy as last time, but looks beautiful"
"Really nice, really moist and tasty. I liked the presentation of the orange, but I'm not that keen on the almonds but not sure what would be better"
"A lot tastier than last week, fluffy, moist, great cake, liked the almonds"
"Liked the crunchy almonds and the orange. Much better than last week. Moistness right through the cake, loved the taste of the cake"
"Delicious cake very moist and yummy, a big fan"
