On the first morning of the GATE (Gathering for Adventure Therapy in Europe) we were sitting around a table, thinking about the final preparations for the 1st GATE that was about to start in a few hours. Our partnership was very excited to host more than 130 AT-practitioners from 22 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Oceania for the next four days. For us, this was the perfect moment for the ATE-network to be born. A network for practitioners and all those interested in Adventure Therapy in Europe, to share ideas and to come closer together.
That’s why the funtastic website-team started to think also about how to invite

to share your knowledge and resources, like we did during our 1st GATE which was held form February 1st to February 4th in the beautiful nature of the Valencian county side in Spain.
Read more about who we are, what we do and what we want.

And feel really WELCOME to the ATE-network!
The Adventure Therapy Europe Network

The partnership project where 8 organizations from different European countries worked together on a website, literature review, e-book and the first GATE, was only the beginning of this wonderful European adventure. We'd love to keep the network alive, to grow even further and to include more European countries and AT practitioners. Through the website, our Facebook page and through next gatherings, you can all share information and experiences with each other, announce trainings and events and keep on broadening our knowledge of AT in Europe!

Conclusions from the 1st GATE
2017 Spain

With over 130 participants from 22 countries this first edition of the Gathering was a big success. Participants shared their knowledge and experiences through more than 20 workshops, the different European networks built bridges towards each other and we all spent some time dreaming about the future of AT in Europe. The GATE had everything we as a partnership hoped for: a lot of passion, motivated people, interesting content, a sense of belonging, some nice dance moves and a lot of energy and inspiration! Thank you all for your contribution! On our website you can find more impressions and the photos of this wonderful event.

The e-book

The outcomes of our European partnership project "Reaching Further" (supported by ERASMUS+) are published in an e-book that is online available at our website.

Read more about our findings on "What is AT?" and the historical backgrounds of AT in all 8 European partnership countries. In the e-book you will also find a literature review on Adventure Therapy with youth at risk. Feel free to spread the word... !
New ATE-website

From the very beginning of the partnership project it was one of the aims to create a website. It was, however, not only supposed to be a website for the partnership, but also a platform for all AT practitioners in Europe. We decided that the website should be able to unite AT participants throughout Europe. But how could we do that? What design and layout would work best? And what should the content be? What would people want to read? In the tradition of experiential learning we decided to just start and learn-by-doing. In november 2015 the first ATE-website was launched after two partnership meetings and several discussions through Skype. We used a free online web-building site and NATURE in Belgium took care of the hosting. There was quite a steep learning curve for the whole team and in September 2016 we started to work on our second website, with the support of Icelandic designers at Viska vefsidugerd (

And now… Here we are!
We invite you to have a look at our beautiful new
ATE-network website!
The new design, apart from being sleak and elegant, includes a calendar for all European AT events, the findings from the partnership and hopefully links to several European organizations, places, resources, and more.
Let’s stay in touch!
