Letter from the President

When I started working at a law firm, back in 2009, I quickly got involved with the IFMA Legal Industry Council. I felt like this council was one of the best ways to learn about the new world I found myself in, and to ensure I established myself as someone knowledgeable about best practices within my organization
Almost on cue, as soon as I joined, I received a request to participate in a benchmark report that the council was conducting. It was a wide-ranging document that took quite a while to complete, but generated some interesting data in the end. So far, we have done benchmark reports in 2010, 2012, and 2015.
We’re now embarking on the 2017 report, and want to make this as valuable for you as possible. A committee has been working on editing back the total number of questions we ask – and making sure the ones we do ask have the most impact on law firm facility managers possible. The committee’s hope is that the report we produce will be something that will have a lot of participation, and will generate actionable intelligence for our members to take back to their firms.
Please be on the lookout in the next month or two for a notice about the survey – and complete it as soon as possible. If you have any questions that you are dying to ask your peers about, please let me know so we can consider including those! My goal is to turn this back around to you in a report format by this Summer.
If you have any other ideas about things the council should be doing or programs you want to see from us, please let me know.

Member Spotlight
Cynthia Dvorak Receives Pinnacle Award

To anyone who knows her, Cynthia Dvorak is a powerhouse. She was an enthusiastic member of the IFMA Legal Council since it was founded – participating on board meetings for as long as I’ve been involved with the group. She was also an institution at Sidley Austin, the firm where she worked for over 40 years! Cynthia is an amazing woman, and worked behind the scenes on the board to advocate for our members more than many people know. This January, shortly before her retirement, the Council presented Cynthia with the “Pinnacle Award” in recognition of her years of service and outstanding dedication to the LIC and its mission. Steve Rothmund, also of Sidley Austin, presented the award. We wish her best on this exciting next phase of her life!

Congratulations to these Members for Recieving IFMA'S SFP Designation

  • Michael Anderson, SFP at Skadden
  • David Nugent, SFP at Fenwick.
  • Mark Young, SFP at Skadden

As part of this arduous process, these folks were able to pass a test and receive IFMA’s SFP designation. The Legal Industry Council is also subsidizing a portion of the money they expended on study materials. Please let us know what educational opportunities you are interested in the future. This council believes that by enhancing the knowledge and skills of its members, we are helping the industry as a whole.
