Nine Days of Survival || Day Three
Taking Every Thought Captive

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5
Satan is a bully. He knows we are most vulnerable when we are weakened by hardship and pain. And like any bully seeking to affirm his own power, he preys on the weak with powerful blows to our spirit and mind, blows that come in the form of lies about God that feel like they might be true.
He snarls in our ears ...
Is God really good?
Is God really in control?
Does God really love you?
Does God really have your best in mind?
When the enemy launches a full-fledged attack on our minds and the truths we should never doubt, that’s when we need to counter his wave of poison arrows with our shield of faith, and we take our offensive weapon, the sword that is God’s word, and wield those truths boldly.
Is God really good?
God is good and what He does is good.
Psalm 119:68
Is God really in control?
... He is the only Ruler, the King of kings, the Lord of lords.
1 Timothy 6:15
Does God really love you?
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son ...
1 John 1:9
Does God really have your best in mind?
For we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose
Romans 8:28
The key is to feed yourself these truths even though you won’t feel like they are true. I think that is why it is so easy to lean into Satan’s lies. Because enduring suffering very much feels like God is not good, like He is not in control, like He does not love you or care about you. But that is why it is so incredibly important to feed yourself these truths even when they don’t feel true. Because they are true, no matter what, and you must believe them.
I have to warn you, this battle will be exhausting. Satan wants your mind, wants to bring you down with doubts about the Father, wants to beat you down while you are already bloody from the pain of your suffering. I have always loved the use of the word “captive” in 2 Corinthians 10:5.  Taking something captive means you are holding it against its will.  Like wrangling a wild animal into a cage, taking something captive will require major effort on your part to keep it under control, to bring it into submission. Bringing our rogue thoughts into submission under Christ’s authority and to where the enemy no longer holds power will require some serious effort. But I stand testament to the fact that your mental wellness during a time of trial requires it. It is how you will survive.
What lie is the enemy trying to feed you today? What truths do you know that can combat those lies and attacks from the deceiver?
Father we are weary from the battle waging against our minds. The sinister lies being whispered into our beaten down souls are so easy to believe. Strengthen us, Father, as we raise up the sword of Your truth with our tired arms. Fight our battles with us and for us and may we never forget that You are truly on our side. Jehovah Nissi, You are the banner under which we fight, Amen.
