From the President

Happy Fall!  As the fall season approaches, our Lincoln Quilt Guild activities and meetings are starting to wind down.

Meeting and Workshop Highlights

Our 10.10.2022 meeting was a full house with 108 members, 2 new members, and 26 guests.

2023 Officers: Our October meeting saw the election of officers.
  • President – Nancy Anderson
  • President-Elect – Tammy Hensley
  • Treasurer – Kathy Junker
  • Treasurer Elect – Barb Jauken
  • Secretary – Deb Peck
  • Programs – Maggie Copple, Sandra Wade
  • Programs-Elect – Rebecca Brooks, Jacque Riese
  • Advisor – Connie Soucie
The officers will be officially installed at the November meeting.  Thanks goes to the Nominations Committee – Pat Modrell and Lisa Burham – for their work on finding such qualified people for Guild leadership.

2023 / 2024 Budget: We also gained approval from the membership for the 2023 / 2024 budget.  Special thanks to the Finance Committee, and our Treasurer Christina Chapman for guiding this process to a positive result.

Awards: Two awards were presented at the October meeting.

LIFE MEMBER is the highest honor given to a Lincoln Quilt Guild member.  It is awarded for a lifetime of achievement or significant contribution to the Guild.  Christina’s willingness to serve has provided a continuity of leadership for our guild.  She is described as a calm, gifted leader, and as a board member, she demonstrates the ability to assess concerns and opportunities with wisdom and experience.  Her suggestions, based on her years in guild leadership roles, are thoughtful, tactful, and beneficial.  During her membership in the Lincoln Quilters Guild, Christina has served as Awards Committee member, Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect, New Members Group, Nominations Committee member, President Elect, President, Advisor, and Finance Committee Chair. She is an amazing volunteer and an invaluable member of our guild.  Christina was previously awarded the Bright Star and Shining Star awards in 2017.

BRIGHT STAR is awarded for consistent achievement and continuing involvement for the betterment of the Guild over a period of time.  Vicky Skuodas received her LIFE MEMBER award in 2010.  Since that time, Vicky has continued on at full speed.  Under her leadership, Cuddle Quilts donations have increased from under 100/year to 550+/year.  She also works with immigrants to our community – teaching them how to sew and quilt, as well as collecting and distributing quilts to keep them warm in the winter.  If not for Covid, she would have led the Guild through our 2020 quilt show.  Vicky has also contributed by creating a raffle quilt for the guild.

A special thanks is extended to the Awards Committee who solicits nominations, reviews the awards criteria, and selects the award winners.  Committee members include Jaynee Wolfe (Committee Chair), Caroline Garner, and Carol Curtis.

Threads Across Nebraska
In addition to our regular Show ‘n Tell, those who contributed quilts for Threads Across Nebraska showed their quilts with their stories of how and why they were made.  The Guild supported Threads through this contribution, as well as guest speakers and the attendance of our members.

Program by Angela Walters what a fabulous presentation!

Traveling from her home outside of Kansas City, Angela brought her history, humor, beautiful quilts, and ideas for beautiful machine quilting.  The trunk show illustrated her work and ideas.

Angela's two workshops were well attended.  The morning session, "Dot to Dot Quilting," had 21 attendees - 6 were non-members.  The afternoon session, "Help, How Do I Quilt This," had 29 attendees - 7 were non-members.  Lots of activity and learning took place, and one attendee said it was the “best workshop ever”.

Committees:  As we near the end of the year, we are reviewing our current committees and asking for your help in filling out committees.  Those who are on committees have the opportunity to influence and engage with the membership and help the guild in many of our activities.  The work and dedication required for the committees will vary.  If you are interested in joining a committee, please contact Nancy Anderson.  Role descriptions for the Committees are available so that you have a good idea of what would be expected of your participation (link for committee descriptions).  November will be our final meeting of the year, and we will start up again in March 2023.   The officers and committees will participate in a “transition of duties” meeting so that they have an understanding of their roles going forward.

Fiftieth Anniversary celebrations in 2023:  We are looking forward to #50 in 2023.  In November, a challenge quilt project will be presented to the membership for the celebration of #50.  You will receive a piece of gold fabric and asked to make any design you want, as long as it is 72” perimeter.  Be sure to come to get your fabric!  It will be a fun year with something new happening every month!
