A Visit to Winterthur
Winterthur, a premier museum of American decorative arts,
located in the childhood home of collector and horticulturist
Henry Francis du Pont (1880–1969).
Our Program Director, Lucy, recently attended the Winterthur Needlework Conference in Delaware. This year's conference was entitled Embroidery: the Language of Art.

Lucy had the chance to visit the Westtown School with Mary Uhl Brooks, archivist and author of Threads of Useful Learning: Westtown School Samplers, a book which is now a fantastic new addition to our library!

Other highlights of the conference include a lecture on May Morris by Anna Mason; attending a workshop on the conservation and display of needlework with Joy Gardiner; and a workshop with Anne Hilker, in which Lucy was able to view a large collection of Erica Wilson's pieces.

Lucy was so inspired by the lectures and the people that she met there and looks forward to returning for the next conference. The needlework exhibition accompanying the conference is on display until January 8, 2017. If you are in the area, it is worth taking the time to visit.

Events at SNAD
We are excited about our continued relationship with the organization Nest and we recently hosted a Sip 'n' Stitch event for them at our school. The Founder and Executive Director of Nest, Rebecca van Bergen, along with a group of Nest supporters, had the opportunity to partake in a small embroidery project, creating an embroidered version of the Nest logo. The stitchers, many of whom were first-timers, each came away with a personalized piece.

(The hay for the nest portion of the logo was donated by Toto and Rebeccah, SNAD assistant Beth's rabbits!)

If you would like to host a private event at SNAD, send an email to info@sfsnad.org.
Win a Free Day Class!
We recently acquired a very large antique embroidery for our collection. Above is a sneak peak. We love this piece and we hope it will inspire your own work. We are holding a contest related to the embroidery and in order to enter you must come and see the piece in person! Find the missing motif element and you will be entered into a drawing to win a Free One-Day Class.

We will reveal the piece during the next Saturday Stitch-In on November 12th at 11:30 am. We hope to see you there!
Deadline for requesting crystals!

We have received more crystals, however, due to high demand, we now have a deadline for requesting crystals. The deadline is November 15th.

If you are still interested in entering our Stitch at Home Challenge and need crystals, please email us at info@sfsnad.org. If you have already requested crystals but have not received them, please let us know.

So far we have mailed out crystals to over 100 individuals! SNAD is a non-profit organization, so if you would like to make a donation to go towards the shipping costs and support our work, you can do so via PayPal here.

More information on the Stitch at Home Challenge can be found on the homepage of our website.
Classes for 2017 will be posted online soon!
We will send out a separate notice announcing our new classes.
