What Did Northeast Indiana Accomplish in 2018?

In short, the Regional Partnership set out in 2018 to continue to drive the organization’s mission to build, market and sell Northeast Indiana to increase business investment. We worked to “build” a region advancing toward the goals of Vision 2030, “market” the region through national public relations and a regional branding initiative and accelerate our “sell” efforts focused on business development.

Many notable accomplishments are now on record for 2018. Without downplaying any other results, I am highlighting five as a reminder of what will be important in the year ahead. While we record the achievement in the year past, the full sustained value of these accomplishments is yet to be realized for years to come.

So, what did we accomplish together in Northeast Indiana?

National Media Result: “Is your city pricing you out?”

As talent attraction becomes increasingly important for the region, the Regional Partnership's marketing team is pitching quality of life stories to national media in addition to stories about industry and business climate.

Through our national PR work with Development Counsellors International (DCI), we recently hosted journalist Matt Meltzer for a visit to Northeast Indiana.

During journalist visits like these, we work hard to showcase many different stories and amenities throughout the region during the allotted time, and the journalist has the opportunity to select a story angle for his or her publication. Meltzer spent time in Fort Wayne and also in Auburn, and he chose to write about downtown Fort Wayne as a vibrant, thriving, affordable community with many amenities for millennials.

Meltzer published the story “Is your city pricing you out? Here’s what life could be like in America’s most affordable city” about the affordability and high quality of life in our region.

Northeast Indiana's Internship Program Highlighted at Conference

In December 2018, Sonya Snellenberger-Holm presented at the Commission for Higher Education’s annual Student Advocates Conference. The conference hosted over 400 attendees and serves as an opportunity for Indiana college advisors, mentors, student leaders and other advocates to discover innovative practices, share success stories and learn about state policies impacting college completion and student success.

Snellenberger-Holm, the Regional Partnership's internship program manager, spoke to attendees about the importance of building a collaborative atmosphere for partners to ensure that students in Northeast Indiana can have a quality internship experience. Knowing that internships are an essential building block for talent attraction, talent development and business attraction, she shared ways that participants can take the model of the Regional Internship Program for Employers to recreate in their own organization or school.
