EPRA Monthly Brief
May 2019
Last week we were delighted to welcome our Chairman Rolf Buch, CEO of Vonovia, at our offices in Brussels. Rolf was able to meet all the EPRA teams and discussed initiatives for the remainder of the year.

Earlier this month, EPRA’s sustainability committee met in Marseille at the invitation of our member Hammerson to prepare this year’s sustainability Best Practices Recommendations assessment. EPRA will speak at the Responsible Investor’s annual conference in London in June, as European companies and investors are gearing for an important year for ESG, with the European Commission working on its action plan for Sustainable Finance. Together with some of our members we will also intervene during one of the EU sustainable energy week’s event on smart financial solutions for more efficient buildings.

June will also see a strong investor outreach programme when we meet with investors in the US and Asia. Our close partnership with Nareit means we are well represented in North America and I look forward to this year’s REITWeek. Following the trip in the US we move to our 12th Asia Week, where we will visit five cities in five days with four of our members. You can read more about our Continental Europe outreach in the core of this newsletter.
Finally, as always, it is my pleasure to welcome two new members: Cromwell Property Group and KAREIT.

Compare CRE and LRE across regions – interactive infographic

EPRA has released a new interactive infographic to showcase the latest edition of the Total Markets Table. Published on a quarterly basis, the report presents an estimated value of the commercial real estate (CRE), using the latest available GDP figures and the total value of the listed real estate (LRE) covering four main regions (Developed Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, and also Emerging Markets). It allows the comparison of the relative size of the CRE, LRE and the FTSE EPRA Nareit Index coverage, at regional but also country levels. Discover the infographic and download the full report.
European Investors Outreach Update

EPRA presented its latest Real Estate Digest event in London on Wednesday, 22 May.
Alex Ross, Senior Investment Manager at Premier Asset Management, hosted an event that considered niche real estate sectors and their ability to drive future income streams for investors.
After an overview from Alex, there were three brief company updates by Target Healthcare Supermarket Income REIT and Sirius Real Estate The panel discussion after the updates enabled a deeper understanding of each company’s position within its particular market and allowed the audience to delve beneath the headline information.
With over 40 attendees in the room, ranging from private client investment managers to specialist listed real estate fund managers and equity fund managers, we see continued appetite for such thematic events.
Join the debate!

The EPRA Conference will focus on social and political disruption this year with keynote speakers José Manuel Barroso – former two-time President of the European Commission and Prime Minister of Portugal, Yanis Varoufakis – former Greek Finance Minister and Javier Solana – former Secretary General of NATO and Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister. We will also hold a series of panels on iconic Madrid and C40 city Barcelona, and see the return of the global investors panel, which will discuss the appetite for REITs versus direct investments. Registration is open and thank you to our sponsors without whom none of this would have been possible!
