On May 7 and 8, 2018, an edtech workshop will be convened, for two days and designed to address opportunities in educational technologies. The workshop will have a dozen participants drawn from the local (Greek) community, NGO's involved in skills development, the migrant / refugee community and the international volunteer community.
Explore opportunities and brainstorm solutions. The focus will be on design thinking. Elements from the designer's toolkit like empathy and experimentation will be used to arrive at innovative solutions. By using design thinking, decisions are based on what future customers really want instead of relying only on historical data or making risky bets based on instinct instead of evidence.
Select one or two viable high value propositions and develop a business strategy and framework. Key elements of a business plan will be identified, and the broad terms of a roadmap to market will be identified.
By the end of the workshop we plan to have at least one Edutech “proposal” that:
• Embodies a unique selling proposition
• Encourages collaboration between resident and migrant communities
• Presents a clear pathway to market
• Satisfies our social entrepreneurship pillar
• Passes the scrutiny of the day 3 presentation
The Edutech workshop will be led by Barbara “Bobbi” Kurshan

Bobbi is a leading US based edutech entrepreneur, investor and educator. Her recent awards include the prestigious WISE Award for Innovation at the World Innovation Summit for Education in Doha, Qatar, and the 20 to Watchaward from NASBE in 2009. In 2008, Dr. Kurshan was named Laureate, Tech Awards from Technology Benefiting Humanity. She was awarded the 2007 UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize. In 2005, Dr. Kurshan received the ISTE Making It Happen award and the Women’s Venture Fund Highest Leaf Award.
