Barrow Runners April Newsletter

Hello <<First Name>>  and welcome to the Barrow Runners Newsletter. We hope you find the below information useful and informative, and if you would like anything including in future please send through to comms@barrowrunners.co.uk

This month we would like to welcome to the club Becky White and Laura Jinks. We hope you enjoy running with us.

The last months weekly rundowns, which highlight our race results and successes, are on the news sections of the website. Also on the news section is an excellent round up of the Cross Country season from our XC captains. If you missed them they can be found in our news section here

AGM

The AGM took place on Tuesday 21st March.  Full minutes from the meeting will be shared on the website once they have been approved by committee.

The annual membership fee was confirmed as £30 for the year, a slight increase which mostly covers the increase in England Athletics fees and training facilities. We hope you agree this is still excellent value at under 60p a week.

There are now due and can be paid easily online.

This year’s Prestwold 10k is on Sunday 18 June and now open for online entries. Full details and link to entries can be found here

Prestwold is NOT a League race this year so we can’t sit back and watch the entries flood in. We are asking for a club-wide effort to get the word out there and make it another big success. Please start spreading the word to family, friends and colleagues.

We’ll soon produce flyers for you, and in the meantime please follow and share the dedicated Facebook Event.

Runner of the Month

Runner of the month for March is Danny Butcher.

Danny has been ever present at races this year, having completed all XC and league races in 2017. He's always one of our first finishers and is getting quicker and quicker.  Well done Danny.

If you have nominations for runner of the month please send through to comms@barrowrunners.co.uk by the end of the calendar month.  These then get discussed and voted on by the committee.

Beanie Beacon Run – Tuesday 9 May - 6.45pm

New event from Team Runner Bean – in association with Barrow Runners - Training run open to all Barrow Runners members.

The Run will comprise of several options for you:-

  • • 2.9 miles – one large loop
  • • 4.9 miles – one large loop and one small loop = one LAP
  • • 1 mile small additional half loop for half marathon distance only
  • • Shortest distance therefore 2.9 miles = 1 large loop
  • • Max distance 13.1 miles = 2 LAPS and one half loop
  • • Any other distance e.g. 7.8 miles being 1 LAP and 1 large loop
  • • Sounds complicated but it isn't!

JUST REMEMBER WHATEVER YOU CHOSE MUST BE DONE WITHIN A 2 HOUR LIMIT.

Children of Barrow Members are welcome, but must run with a parent / guardian at all times. Given the minimum distance I would think the minimum age would be 7 years but please use your common sense, as they are your responsibility. It is not a race so there are no prescribed distances for kids and remember it's fun so they can walk if they wish at times!

This is a free event in place of the Clubs training session, but to cover costs we would ask for a small donation of £2 per adult runner and 50p per child under 16 years.

First come first served basis, with a maximum of 80.  If you plan to attend please let Ian Paramore know. Please provide names of runner/s and age if under 16 years.

Full details are on the Event Calendar
