Dear Athena Members, Supporters, and Friends,

This year has given us plenty of reasons to focus on ways in which our world is polarized on issues of tolerance and fairness.  We may have questioned our sense of being a nation that values, embraces, and seeks diversity. However, in our efforts for Athena's mission to advance gender diversity in the boardroom, I am thrilled to say I have received nothing but support from the individuals we encounter, many of them men.

In the spirit of gratitude this Thanksgiving week and at a time when our country feels largely divided on many fronts, I want to highlight some incredible men who have done so much to support the Athena community in our early days. I hope to continue to bridge alliances between men and women to advance diversity in this coming year and I'd like to express my deepest thanks to the men who have helped launch this organization to success to date. Without you, we would not be where we are. Thank you!

Boards we're supporting

In the last six months, Athena has been actively supporting five boards, three public and two late stage private, to introduce them to incredible women for current open board seats. Twelve of the twenty-one interviews of Athena women are resulting in additional consideration for those boards, with eleven women advancing, one of them for two boards. Several of the boards are hoping to make a decision within the next couple of months. We've also filled four board seats with Athena women this year, one private (Jitterbit), and three high profile non-profit seats--two with Girls in Tech, and one with the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose. We are very grateful for this accelerated start with boards excitedly partnering with us to advance gender diversity in the boardroom.

Our Members and the wider Athena Community

Athena only came to be as a mission based non-profit this year. We started off the year with 132 executive women regularly participating in a lose affiliation centered around networking and C-level peer support. It was the inspiration and desires of these women that launched us as what we are today. 40 of those women joined us to build and pilot our white glove, highly curated membership program as both earlier adopters and collaborators to prototype the services we have come to center around to help women articulate their value, increase their visibility and be actively considered for board positions. In a few short months, our community has expanded to over 350 executive women, VCs, CEOs, and seated directors. We continue to work tirelessly to strengthen this community, leverage new connections, and increase our visibility as part of a trusted network that gives one access to board opportunities. We'll begin to highlight a few of the amazing women in our network in our newsletters and on our website.
