Rethinking Mental Health Conference

Overview
Bringing together experts from around Australia to provide new insights on the impact of mental health in our region and new approaches to managing mental health. This conference is proudly presented by Wentworth Healthcare, provider of the Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network.

GPs, primary care nurses, psychologists and other allied health professionals working in our region are encouraged to attend this full day conference, featuring leading national and local mental health experts.

As well as an insightful, dynamic program, there will be generous opportunities to network with peers and enjoy the environs of the Fairmont Resort. Everyone is invited to stay for the cocktail networking reception from 4:45pm.

CPR Training 2019

Overview
The Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course covers all aspects of resuscitation and basic life support.

It is open to all health care professionals and health administration staff actively employed in our area. There is a cost of $50 per person.

At the end of the course you will be required to demonstrate competency in CPR on an infant and adult mannequin, and the use of a defibrillator simulating a cardiac arrest scenario.

Presenter: This course is presented by ReViva in accordance with the current guidelines of the Australian Resuscitation Council.

FPS CPD: Interpersonal Therapy and
Trauma Informed Care Training

Audience: General Practice, Allied Health

Overview
Interpersonal trauma is the most debilitating form of traumatic experience, and when it occurs in childhood, affects the development of personality and relationships. Interpersonal Therapy provides an effective framework which incorporates the principles and trauma informed care.

Many of most difficult interactions with patients can be understood and improved with the practice of trauma-informed care. This workshop aims to give clinicians the knowledge and skills to provide this care in physical health settings. 

As this is a practical workshop, a blend of  case histories, demonstrations and group reflective work will be incorporated to build a portfolio of skills for use in daily clinical care. Broader question of safety both for patients and clinicians will also be explored. Participants will be involved in skills practice and provided with online resources for further study.

This has been approved by the RACGP for Mental Health Skills Training Accreditation for GPs to be a provider of Focussed Psychological Strategies.

Learning outcomes:

  • Accurately identify the physical and emotional sequelae of trauma
  • Apply the 5 principle of trauma-informed care in the clinical setting
  • Use an Interpersonal Therapy framework to address ongoing effects of interpersonal trauma
  • Develop a personal plan to manage the effects of vicarious trauma

Preparing your Practice for PIP QI

Overview
The new PIP QI commences on 1 August 2019. This information session will prepare your practice to be ready for the new PIP QI.

The PIP QI incentive aims to recognise and support general practices, to improve the care they provide to their patients. Practices will be encouraged to utilise their own population health data to drive positive patient outcomes.

  • Understand the changes to PIP and the new PIP QI
  • Develop a quality improvement culture within your practice
  • Identify areas for practice specific quality improvement activities

Free Cultural Competency Training
for Practice Staff

Audience: General Practice
Overview
The Cultural Competence Program (CCP) is a range of online training courses and online resources designed to train people to better manage cultural diversity.

Courses are available anytime, anyplace and on any device via app or web. The Program takes around 3 – 4 hours to complete, with each module featuring a learning outcome and links to additional material to allow participants to delve deeper into the subjects presented.

Individual learning outcomes include developing an understanding of:
  • What culture, diversity, inclusion and cultural competence mean
  • How cultural diversity contributes to competitive advantage
  • How unconscious bias affects everyone’s decision making and what can be done to ameliorate its affects
  • How different cultures have different ways of thinking, acting and communicating
  • How different culture’s values, attitudes and beliefs can affect communication
  • How people from different cultures adapt to their new culture and the impact this can have on the workplace
