AUGUST 2020   |   VOLUME 3
.  .  .
Welcome to the third edition of CPC Women's newsletter, Together!   We are hopeful that you will find this a place where we not only share news and resources with each other, but also our lives in word and deed!

In March, I was waiting for Easter dinner with the family.  In May, I was waiting for our vacation out West.  In July, I was waiting for meeting in homes again, Sunday worship without masks, and Ravens games at M&T Bank stadium. I’m still waiting. We are all still waiting.

As I take a moment to reflect on how I have been reacting to these last six months, I can see how I’ve flip-flopped between two attitudes.

First, I am resigned. This may never end.  Don’t think about what might be in the future.  Just accept the facts of the situation and live with them.  Sigh.

Second, I will just wait it out.  Don’t start anything new.  Just get through it.  Life will begin again after the vaccine. Hang in there.

But neither of these positions is what God desires. He desires for me to both live my fullest life now and also live in expectant hope for what He will do in the future. Peter’s second letter to believers has been a balm to my wearied, waiting soul. While I wait, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness”.  Also, I can live in this moment, looking forward to “His precious and very great promises” which He has granted to me.

So waiting is a gift.  I can live here in 2020 at 100%, while I wait to live in a future new heavens and new earth at 100%.  This “now and not yet” life that COVID has forced upon us is exactly the life that God has laid out for us in His love. What a comfort.

May I challenge you to take some time to ask God to show more of Himself to you right now in this extraordinary moment in His story?  What might this Fall look like in your life, knowing that His divine power has given you all you need for life? Talk to friends about it. Journal. Gather your family together.  Step out in faith to live a life designed for you by the One who created your inmost being.

Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study

Come study The Word of the Lord by Nancy Guthrie on Tuesday mornings this Fall. The classes will be held on Zoom and begin on September 15th at 10am. Prophets in the Old Testament were men who spoke for God. Over 100 times in the historical and prophetical books of the Old Testament we read that, "the word of the Lord came" to a prophet. This ten-session study dives into the challenging prophetical books of Isaiah through Malachi with the aim of understanding not only what God had to say to his people through these prophets in their own day, but also what he has to say to his people today. Readers discover that we struggle with the same sins, we’re subject to the same judgment, and we await the same Savior. REGISTER HERE

Women's Book Discussion - A Beautiful Community

"What will enable us to commit to the pursuit of beautiful community; of unity in diversity; seeking the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace across lines of difference?"  Read and discuss together how the Bible addresses this question and how the church can respond according to a newly published book, The Beautiful Community: Unity, Diversity, and the Church at Its Best, by Dr. Irwyn Ince, local PCA pastor and director of Grace DC Institute For Cross-Cultural Mission. This discussion will be held on Thursdays from 7:30-8:45 pm for 10 weeks beginning September 17 and will either be in-person, on Zoom, or a hybrid, depending on the desires of the group. Ruth and Esther

Ruth and Esther are two prophetic pictures of the same gospel. One speaks of a last–minute rescue from death, the other of a long–awaited filling of a terrible emptiness. One ends with a baby; the other concludes with an annual remembrance of an amazing escape. But neither really ends, until they find their fulfilment in Jesus Christ.
This ten week course for men and women will begin on September 23 and will be held on Zoom.  Leaders will be Anthony Swon and Julie Iwaskiw.

Women's Weekend - Rediscovering Our God of Wonders - October 9-10
Ladies! Join us for a weekend of rediscovering our God of Wonders! We will be having a music fest Friday evening, including a devotional, on the patio outside the community room on our campus. On Saturday we will gather at 1pm for your choice of a hike with some elevation or a walk on a flat trail along the Patuxent River. At 4pm we will host a picnic at Guilford Park pavilion in Jessup, which has a beautiful pond. We will also have a devotional during our picnic. You can come to any or all of the events, but you must register for the picnic if you would like an individual boxed meal. Women's ministry is covering the cost of your weekend. Come hang out at the park during the hike time if you'd like. We have a covered pavilion, but bring a chair to make social distancing easier. REGISTER HERE
