Newton Chinese Language School (NCLS) Support Education Program (SEP) is proudly to announce
A New Community Support Program
Academic Tutoring Program
Starting March 2018, elementary and middle school students from neighborhood communities will have the opportunity to receive homework help as well as academic tutoring from SEP volunteering students at Newton Chinese Language School.
Tutoring Time: Every Sunday 12:30pm-1:45pm
Tutoring Location: Classroom #230 Newton F.A. Day Middle School
21 Minot Place, Newton, MA 02460
Volunteer students grades 9-12 will be available to help your child finish their homework efficiently, study for exams, and better comprehend any material that they are having difficulty with. We will also offer math and reading tutoring by providing extra study material.
The program’s supervisors are Ms. Ginger Yao and Ms. Ling Zheng, the leaders of NCLS SEP program. Our goal is to make sure that your child receives one-on-one tutoring. Furthermore, we will try to match each student’s tutor based on their grade level and coursework. If your child would like to come to the tutoring program, please email Ms. Zheng at email@example.com with your child’s name, grade, subject to tutor. Please email before Saturday so we can arrange the tutor on Sunday.
Parents can drop off children anytime during the program. We request parents to pick up children on time when tutoring ends.
Please note that parking inside the campus is reserved for teachers and staff. Please park along the sports field or on Walnut Street.
Seminar This Week 4/1 College funding by Xiaodong Wu
3:40pm Classroom 227
We are a group of licensed financial professionals who have worked in the financial service industry for many years and have helped many families on their financial planning, including education funding. We plan to give a seminar on college education funding and financial aid as this is a topic many families are interested in learning about. This seminar was previously given at multiple Chinese Schools and was well received by parents.
We would share some concepts and knowledge on education funding, focusing on helping the middle class families on how to apply for financial aid when kids go to college and how to prepare education funding. College tuition is a big expenditure in the midterm for families. Common thinking among Chinese families is that their income is too high to get financial aid, and therefore they have to pay the sticker price themselves. Many families lack knowledge on how to get financial help from government or school. This seminar will shed light on some blind spots regarding financial aid application. We will share the knowledge of financial aid application and some real cases, including cases where "high" income families got financial aid but "low" income families did not. We will describe misconceptions we should avoid as well as things we should pay closer attention to.
The education funding seminar will benefit not only families with high school kids, but also all families who have education funding needs, including those with younger children. The earlier we plan, the better position we will be in! This seminar will help you tackle the education funding challenges.
The NCLS Support Education Program is celebrating its 12th anniversary! With the help of its group members' tireless and selfless contributions and efforts, NCLS board leadership, parents and teachers' support and students' participation, this program has become one of the prominent community service programs in Massachusetts.
You are cordially invited to join this year's fundraising dance party on March 31, 2018! Come for a wonderful night celebrating the coming of spring, and have fun! Contributions to the SEP will go the impoverished families of Henan province. Come support our local community in promoting education in China.
SEP works to help those in need. Each year, student participants work to raise money for provinces in rural China; this year, the students will be taking a trip to the first XinAn high school(新安县第一高中）. This trip serves to allow our students to be more immersed in Chinese culture, learn about their own environments in contrast to China's and to better help those in need.
