Welcome to Food Security for America's October Newsletter

Food Security for America provides nutritious food and a strong sense of belonging every two weeks to groups of 50 low-income families called Friends and Neighbors Networks (FANNs). Each meeting is run by its members, who collect a small fee,  unload and distribute the food, lead discussions in health, job opportunities and personal finance, and share prayer concerns.  Our meetings build strong bonds of friendship which build confidence and empower members toward economic self-sufficiency.

Food Security for America:

  • Manages FSA-run FANNs in low-income apartment complexes in Georgia;
  • Trains non-profits and churches around the U.S. to operate their own FANNs, and
  • Links FANN organizations and churches across the country.

In four short years we have grown to 21 states.  Read inspiring success stories on our website.

Members of the Raleigh, North Carolina FANN have a strong desire to give back. Over 200 dresses were made and sent to Haiti. Meeting every other Thursday, the Parkview Manor FANN is sponsored by Hayes-Barton United Methodist Church and Raleigh Mennonite Church. They are a partner agency of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Nancy Yarnell Speaks at the Poverty Forum
Our executive director, Nancy Yarnell, was a panelist at the St. Vincent de Paul Poverty Forum in September where she spoke on "Beyond Food Pantries to Friends and Neighbor Networks". The SVDP Poverty Summit is a gathering of nonprofits, business leaders, elected officials and others who discuss poverty issues in the region and learn from one another. Learn how FANNs operate.
Jon West, Vice President of Programs at the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Rev. Chad Hale, Founder of Urban Recipe, at our quarterly Food Security for Georgia meeting. We shared updates from our Georgia organizations, program ideas and enjoyed fellowship.
Come and see this empowering ministry in action! We are seeking to grow our base of supporters and as we expand in Atlanta, in Georgia, and throughout the United States. Contact us to learn more.
