Letter from the President

As your president for one more year, I am excited about seeing many of the things your board worked on in 2015 and the first half of 2016 starting to come to fruition.

We have a new website at www.ifmalic.org, which we believe makes a strong case for the value of membership in the council.

We are also leveraging our new sponsorship program to put on more events -  we've put on several very well-attended webinars in 2016. We are  also looking forward to hosting a panel discussion for New York area Law Firm FMs on September 12th at 5:30pm at Gibson Dunn. The event is being sponsored by our Platinum-level partner, Ricoh.

As we usually do, we plan to have an annual meeting, plus a dinner at World Workplace this October in San Diego. We're planning to do something different in 2017, however, and focus most of our efforts on Facility Fusion in Las Vegas from April 4 - 6. This conference will provide us with an opportunity to provide a track of content geared specifically to FMs at law firms. I'm excited to be able to offer this to you, and hope you'll be able to come. Cost to attend the conference (not including lodging or transportation) should be $800.  We'll be sending out more information very soon - if you're interested in presenting, please contact me at joseph.geierman@troutmansanders.com

Join us at World Workplace!

Join the IFMA Legal Council at World Workplace from October 5th through 7th in San Diego. The Council will be holding a membership meeting at 8:30am on the 5th, and would love to see as many of you as possible. We will be holding the meeting in room 1A on the 3rd floor.

As usual, we will also plan to have a dinner with our members on the evening of Thursday, October 6th. No venue has been chosen yet, but LIC members who are registered at the conference will be contacted ahead of time and given that information.

World Workplace is a great place to connect with colleagues and learn about best practices and new research in the field. If you haven't gone, you should plan the trip and see us there!. Register by August 13 to receive early bird pricing!

August Webinar: The Diverse Challenges of Bridging Paper Records

Records Management is no longer just about paper.  Although the digital era has created countless new forms of “records”, legacy paper records still exist. Each stakeholder – client, lawyer, HR, IT -- interact with law firm information with different goals in mind.  Learn the importance of establishing a unified information governance plan.

During this presentation we will also look at the Six S’s where Facilities Management and Records Management converge – Storage and space, Scan-to-shred strategy, Systems, Security, Sorting and indexing, Skill sets.  Linda will review industry trends, patterns, and a strategy to start building solutions to bridge the paper.

With twenty years’ experience in records and information management as a Certified Records Manager and Information Governance Professional, Linda Muller, has been instrumental in building strategic records management compliance plans for organizations by providing an in-depth analysis of RIM processes.  Her solutions and recommendations are based on industry standards and best practices.
